1. Rest & Relief
If you have bursitis, the affected joint is overstrained, and the inflamed bursa is causing pain. To support optimal healing, it’s crucial to avoid any strain on the affected area and give the joint sufficient rest. At the first sign of acute pain, stop any activity that puts pressure on the joint immediately!
Inflammation can only subside if you avoid unnecessary movements and stress. Stabilizing the joint with a bandage, brace, or elastic tape is also beneficial, as it provides support and prevents unwanted movements without restricting the surrounding areas.
However, it’s important not to remain completely...

2. Pharmacological therapy
For severe pain or a pronounced case of bursitis, anti-inflammatory medications can help reduce inflammation and relieve pain. These medications work by inhibiting the inflammatory response and soothing the affected tissue.
In more severe cases, a healthcare provider may administer corticosteroid injections directly into the bursa. Corticosteroids are powerful anti-inflammatory agents that can accelerate healing; however, potential side effects should be carefully considered.
Medication-based treatment is typically a short-term solution aimed at pain relief and inflammation control and should always be used under medical supervision.

3. Physiotherapy and Gentle Exercise
Gentle movement and targeted exercises are essential to maintain and gradually improve the mobility of the affected joint. Physiotherapycan help enhance joint flexibility and strengthen the surrounding muscles.
Specialized exercises focusing on stretching and gentle movements can relieve tension around the joint and promote blood circulation. Incorporating yoga poses or specific stretching routines can also be beneficial to relax the muscles and provide long-term stability.
Regular movement helps the body transport essential nutrients to the affected tissue, which can accelerate healing and prevent future inflammations.

4. Cold therapy
Targeted cooling can effectively help relieve pain and combat inflammation in the affected joint during bursitis. Cold therapy slows down the inflammatory process and reduces the activity of pain receptors, providing rapid relief from discomfort.
A consistent, gentle cooling effect penetrates deep into the tissue, reaching inflamed structures while preventing the so-called “reactive hyperemia”—a counter-reaction in which the body increases blood flow to compensate for excessive cold, potentially weakening the intended effect.
However, the benefits of cold therapy are only achieved when cooling is long-lasting and evenly applied. Superficial or overly cold applications, such as ice packs, may offer temporary pain...
