How it all began
The story of Kalter Bruder© began in Bielefeld. There I (Carsten) founded my first startup in the medical field and literally worked myself into the hospital. With 80 hours a week and far too little compensation through sport or hobbies, I certainly had a pretty unhealthy workload. But what finally did me in were the restless legs, which made it increasingly difficult for me to sleep over the years. I tried marijuana at the time and it worked quite well at first. But over time my body wanted more and more of it and at some point I regularly woke up extremely exhausted in the morning and I dragged myself through the day just as I had before my self-healing attempt. This unhealthy spiral of too much work, drugs and bad sleep ended in a full-blown panic attack at a business lunch that took me straight from the restaurant to the hospital.

The roommate
When I got there, I met my roommate, a handsome man in his late 60s, with whom I quickly became friends and talked about life. When I told him about my restless legs, he reacted with almost unexpected euphoria and told me about a "miracle gel" from Gran Canaria that he used to relieve the nerve pain in his legs and that would certainly help me too. The very next day, his wife brought two bottles and I tried the slimy stuff straight away. The cooling effect that set in after a few minutes was very strong and felt very pleasant. However, because of the sedatives from the clinic, I couldn't really judge at the time whether and how well the gel would help with my restless legs.

Nighttime brainwave
Back in my own bed, I used the gel more and more often and was quite impressed by its effect - even though I was prescribed Parkinson's medication at the same time, which destroyed my entire intestinal flora. When I stopped taking it because of the severe side effects and the habituation effect, the power of the gel really became apparent - without any tablets (and of course without marijuana) I slept through like I hadn't in years.

Then, on one of these wonderful nights, I woke up at around 2 a.m. with a sudden realization: From my night-long research in previous days, I knew that almost 10% of the population in Germany suffer from RLS. And among these fellow sufferers, there are certainly many who will be helped just as much by the gel as it has by me.

Brotherly affair
I set off to visit my twin brother in Lüneburg and told him about my experiences and thoughts. Thanks to his work in medical technology and the pharmaceutical industry, Stefan is extremely knowledgeable about medical issues and quickly agreed: Cold Brother was born.
A lot has happened since then and today tens of thousands of sufferers use the Cold Brother® every day. Over time, we have learned from users that our cooling gel is also a great help for polyneuropathy and inflammatory joint pain. For me, the bottle naturally has a place of honor in the refrigerator door and still reliably helps me fall asleep. Stefan uses it regularly after tough workouts to avoid sore muscles.
